The rapid prototyping via digital fabrication is an intensive and hands-on training designed to teach participants the principles and techniques of digital fabrication applied, and practical applications of 3D printing technology in the field of digital fabrication. This training provides participants with a deep understanding of the 3D printing processes, materials, design considerations, and post-processing techniques. Through a combination of theoretical lecture and hands-on exercises, participants will develop the skills necessary to leverage 3D printing technology for prototyping and speeding up their production purposes.
The main objective is to understand the fundamental concepts of digital fabrication and the role of 3D printing in the manufacturing industry. Become familiar with different types of 3D printing processes including fused deposition modelling (FDM), stereolithography (SLA) and (MSLA), and selective laser sintering (SLS). Learn the properties and characteristics of various 3D printable materials and their suitability for different applications. 3D models will be available to use as a demonstration, participants should have basic knowledge of 3D modelling. Preprinted models will be given away at the end of the workshop.

Alexis Charalambous is a Mechanical Engineer by trade, but he also meddles in fabrication, electronics, and programming. During his studies, he got involved in the formula student team FRTUCY while right after, he performed applied research on the detection of failures in photovoltaic systems. For the last two years, Alex has been working at Thinker Maker Space as a technician in the fields of digital fabrication and rapid prototyping. Finally, you will find him in his workshop where he likes to create prototypes and then blueprints of one-off contraptions to offer to the world (@justmakeitstudio).
Marios Charalambous graduated from Frederick University with an MA in Interdisciplinary Design, and a BA in Interior Design and has been noted on various occasions as the highest academic achiever (Best Academic Performance 2012-2013). Marios is a co-founder of ΦΧΨ Heritage Design, their interests focus on contributing to visual and literary dialogues around cultural heritage, and their collaborations unfold sensitive reflections around what we perceive to be our heritage. Their work can be thought of as heritage activism through design. Marios offers a fresh perspective to design by avoiding current market trends as far as possible by seeking new sources of inspiration for his unique designs. In addition, he has set up the ‘Studio and Lab’ a digital fabrication space in order to further develop and prototype his furniture and product design ideas, experimenting with different materials and in-house machineries, such as laser cutters, 3D printers and CNC router.
